Welcome!

My name is Nathan Rath, and I am a detective with the Champaign Police Department, member of PB&PA [Police Benevolent & Protection Association] Unit #7, and member of FOP Lodge 237.

I am also the father of a six-year-old son, Collin, diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.

Because of my experiences with autism, I have recognized a great need for increased education of early recognition and intervention on behalf of children who are at risk or who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum.  Autism affects approximately 1 in 110 children born today - more children than any other disease or affliction.  Yet, there is no cure for autism.  Very little is known about its cause, and there is a lack of awareness of the early signs of the disorder and a lack of information about the crucial importance of early intervention.

What is the Crusade for Collin?

Crusade For Collin is an autism awareness campaign in honor of my 6 year-old son, Collin.  The primary focus is to educate and inform parents and families about the early warning signs of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs).  I have partnered with Carle Foundation Hospital, Provena Covenant Hospital, Carle Clinic, and Christie Clinic to provide information pamphlets to parents at the time of discharge from delivery and at the 12 month well-baby checkup (see the Autism Info page).

How Can You Help?

Your donation will first and foremost support the production of the awareness pamphlets and brochures to better educate the community about the early signs of autism.  Money will also be distributed to the C-U Autism Network and Cops For Kids.

PLEASE NOTE: Donations will be listed as "Champaign Police Charities"

ALSO: An existing PAYPAL account is NOT required to make a donation, nor will you be required to create one.

Donations can also be mailed to:

Read about Collin in the COLLIN’s STORY page at the top.  Also, check out the many links to autism support sites and learn as much as you can.  Educate yourself, your family, your friends.  Autism is not the end.  It’s a bump in the road.  There are many things that families can do to combat Autism.  It starts with knowing the signs and early intervention.
